There are lots of ADHD symptoms that you need to take into consideration, they are as follows:

What Can Cause ADHD?

Genetic Factors

Family History: ADHD often runs in families, indicating a strong genetic component. If a parent or sibling has ADHD, the likelihood of another family member having the condition increases.
Genetic Variations: Specific genes related to neurotransmitter regulation, such as dopamine, have been associated with ADHD.

Neurological Factors

Brain Structure and Function: Individuals with ADHD may have differences in the structure and activity of brain regions responsible for attention, impulse control, and executive function.
Neurotransmitter Imbalance: Imbalances in brain chemicals like dopamine and norepinephrine, which play a key role in optimal prefrontal cortex (PFC) function.

Enviromental Factors

Prenatal Exposure: Exposure to toxins like tobacco smoke, alcohol, or drugs during pregnancy can increase the risk of ADHD.
Early Childhood Exposure: Lead and other environmental toxins during early childhood can affect brain development and can increase the risk of ADHD.

Developmental Factors

Premature Birth: Being born prematurely or having a low birth weight is associated with a higher risk of developing ADHD.
Brain Injuries: Traumatic brain injuries, particularly those affecting the frontal lobes, can lead to symptoms of ADHD.

What’s the difference between ADHD and ADD?

It is important to clarify the terms ADHD and ADD, as there is often confusion regarding their differences and usage. While ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) was once commonly used to describe a certain type of attention disorder, the terminology has evolved.

There is no difference between ADHD and ADD

Although ADD used to describe the condition characterized primarily by inattentiveness without hyperactivity, it is considered outdated by modern standards. Today, the medical community uses the term ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) to encompass all types of attention disorders, including those that were previously referred to as ADD.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I be living in a different city and still receive services?

Yes! We serve patients all throughout California, you do not need to live in the Los Angeles area.

What can I expect during my first video consultation?

Your provider will review your medical and mental health history and conduct a thorough evaluation to formulate your treatment plan, which may consist of blood tests and a medication if indicated. Your provider may also recommend specific lifestyle modifications as well as supplements.

How often will I need to have follow up appointments?

Frequency of follow up visits will be determined between you and your provider because it varies significantly depending on each individual’s circumstances. However, if you are being prescribed a controlled stimulant medication (Adderall, Vyvanse, Ritalin, Concerta), you will need to have follow up appointments monthly.

Can online doctors prescribe controlled stimulant medications (Adderall, Vyvanse, Ritalin) for ADHD?

Yes, your provider can prescribe controlled stimulant medications if indicated after a thorough evaluation. However, if you do not have a prior documented history of ADHD and are seeking an evaluation for ADHD, we do not prescribe controlled stimulant medications on your first appointment. Your provider will conduct a thorough evaluation to see if you meet criteria for ADHD. This may require several appointments to refine an accurate diagnosis. We do not guarantee any prescriptions for controlled stimulant medications.

What happens if I miss my appointment?

Missed appointments and late cancellations are lost opportunities for new and existing patients that are trying to improve their lives. To ensure we are meeting our patients’ needs, all scheduling changes and cancellations must be made at least 2 business days prior to the date of the scheduled appointment. If you miss your appointment, your credit card on file will be charged the applicable no show/late cancellation fee on the day of the missed appointment. Your insurance company will not reimburse you or Reimagine Psychiatry for missed appointments or late cancellations

What medications are commonly prescribed for ADHD?
Commonly prescribed medications include non stimulants such as Strattera (atomoxetine), Qelbree (Viloxazine), and stimulant medications such as Adderall, Vyvanse, and Ritalin.
